Your doctor may prescribe an insertable cardiac monitor, such as Reveal® XT from Medtronic. This device is used to monitor your heart’s activity over a long period of time. When you have symptoms, the monitor records what has happened. When you next visit your doctor, this information can be downloaded and reviewed.
The Reveal XT Insertable Cardiac Monitor is a small implantable device that is inserted just under your skin in the upper chest area. It is inserted using a simple procedure. The device continuously monitors heart rhythms and records them automatically. Or, you can use a handheld patient activator for recording.

By looking at the heart rhythms over a long period of time, your doctor can see what is happening in your heart when you have symptoms. Your doctor can also assess how your heart is responding to treatment. Other types of heart monitors available are attached on the outside of your body for 2 to 60 days. But, they are often not able to gather enough information.
